Some people say global warming is a myth that has been conjured up to make us work harder for the environment. Even if it is, helping the environment can only be a good thing anyway.
Like it or not, this is a very serious problem that, unlike some of the other major issues, we can actually do something about. If everyone gets off their arses and does their bit then we can make a huge difference. We may not be able to completely stop global warming, but we can most certainly hold it at bay for a while whilst greatly improving our own lifestyles at the same time.
Thoughts?

We aren't completely to blame though as a major amount of global warming is caused by natural events so is our contribution really making any effect?

Yes well as a family with two cars and a room with over 20 plug sockets I am going to back out of this debate

Yes well as a family with two cars and a room with over 20 plug sockets I am going to back out of this debate Part of the problem is that this is more or less normal, although 20 is ridiculous. I know that my household has two cars and uses way more electricity than we need to. These are the sort of things we need to cut out in order to save the planet.

Global Warming
Well although your right in saying if we all did our bit then we could prevent global warming from happening. BUT the only issue in that is "if we all did our bit" Unfortunately, thats asking people to change there attitudes on recycling etc. This is extremely hard to do. I mean have you noticed many people recycling ever since global warming? All I have seen is what I normally see, litter everywhere.

the amount of electricity we use in my house is ridiculous, but my dad keeps moaning at us to turn the lights off all the time and things like that but not because of the environment but because the electricity bill is hundreds and hundreds of £ each month

I mean have you noticed many people recycling ever since global warming? All I have seen is what I normally see, litter everywhere. That is why it hasn't been sorted out yet. People need to learn to get off their arse and recycle stuff. The main problem is that people don't see the point of going to a fair bit of trouble to travel to somewhere so they can recycle stuff. Oppositely, any recycling facilities they have at home (e.g. paper recycling boxes) are used all the time. If the government was able to start more of these initiatives that made it less hassle to recycle, then more people would start to do it.

Not necessarily, Making it less hastle to do something is one way to go about things, but then theres no... interest in doing it I guess. The government needs to make it more INTERESTING and more FUN to make people want to recycle. Rather then saying "hey your ruining the world" and trying to plonk a tonne of guilt onto a bunch of people that don't care, they could say "if you recycle, then we'll give you.." or "for every recycling box you fill, you could get.." and so on.

Interesting suggestion and a decent incentive scheme could be very beneficial. What kind of incentives would you suggest?

Incentives? I don't know...
It's got to be something small that people could want, something small but useful... Perhaps a cinema ticket or something?

Well there has to be something. I don't see how the economy could be out of money, the answer is simple.
Make more and start over.

There is no such thing as global warming, its a natural thing that has been happening since the dinosaurs. We are just speeding it up, we will be long gone when global warming will apparently become a major problem

I think he means in terms of us CREATING global warming there is no such thing. In terms of natural global warming then there is nothing we could do right from the start. We are only tools speeding it up. I think what he is saying is, it was going to happen anyway.

it is/was going to happen anyway, all we are doing is speeding the process up... the silver lining
unless we seriously screw it up, we will all be long dead before we are totaly screwed, so we are fine... its just like our kids, kids, kids that will die in a horrible smog filled world of intense heats and cows

Not necessarily, They say that because of the last generation, our generation is going to be hit the worst by all this economy hardship and that we are running out of fossil fuels. So life for us is about to get a whole lot harder.

So life for us is about to get a whole lot harder. Absolutely. If I remember rightly, the world's coal supply could run out as soon as 2050. That is quite a worrying statistic.
