This is a topic from Callum.
Plastic surgery is something that has become very popular recently as everyday people strive to reach the level of perfection obtained by their celebrity counterparts.
Many questions have been raised about the ethical issues of these practices and whether the growing celebrity culture of the world is affecting people and causing them to think that they are ugly and resort to plastic surgery.
What are your thoughts on this?

Well personally I think that plastic surgery is just a money making scheme of some description.
What I mean is, if plastic surgery wasn't there, then people would live with what they look like and there wouldn't be much problem with complaints on looking ugly etc. I think it's a matter of that, because it's there, then people want it. If plastic surgery wasn't there then people wouldn't thrive to try and become the best looking or try to better themselves in looks when there is no need whatsoever. So overall, it's the fact that the option to look better is there, so people become greedy and try and look better. But what does it achieve? as it hides the real you.

I agree with you when you say it is a money making scheme but in some cases it it much needed such as when there was a person who was mauled by a dog but in the cases of people who want to look better purely because they think that they are ugly then it is entirley wrong and a waste of money. Also, people are taking practices abroad because it is cheaper and this is leading to loads of problems with people getting problems and British healthcare not really caring and telling them to see the person who did it. Overall, a complete waste!

In my opinion, plastic surgery is wrong and is just exploiting people's insecurities to make some easy money. In general, those who go for plastic surgery for cosmetic reasons are doing it because they spend most of their days looking at stick thin, picture perfect celebrities and wishing that they could look as "good" as these people do.
Plastic surgery is a technology that should be used to help people who have suffered from accidents and have been disfigured (e.g. burn victims), not for people who want their tits a few sizes bigger so they can look like "that bird on the telly who's shagging that gorgeous footballer".

I wouldn't say it was either right or wrong. I mean some people need it. I guess it depends on whether you want it or not, I think having it as expensive as it is is good though, discouraging. xD

but thats where it's not discouraging Making it expensive just makes people want it more because it's expensive If something is expensive, if someone has it then they think they are fantastic and all popular and in the hiarachy of all things great.
It is wrong and it is right. Sold for wrong purposes, used for right.

What are your thoughts on this? After some research upon this, It's come to my attention that before plastic surgery can take place, the reciever of the operation undergoes therapy and has to sign letters of consent to why they want plastic surgery. Only if they pass through this therapy and consent etc can they recieve plastic surgery.

This process is seriously flawed if all these celebrities are able to get breast enhancement/reduction for no other reason other than wanting "better tits".

Tom your missing out the point that they ae celebrities. These people are, in the eyes of the media, are Gods. Celebrities make the media and they make the media tonnes of money. The media can then overpower the surgeons into performing plastic surgery. Tbh half of it is probably so they can get there hands on some celebrities boobs =P
