Alcohol is to me my only vice, it's the one thing that I let myself down on. It's not a case of I go out and get drunk on the street corner every friday, it's nothing like that. It's a case of one drink gets me going and then it ends up in a craving which tends to lead to less then positive things. I'm not sure whether I want to get myself out of this though, that's the thing, I'm not sure if it's a vice I particuarly want to try getting rid of because it's partly a positive thing for me. I don't know, I would invite you to try and persuade me.

Mikey! Hai!
Anyway, serious problem solving face on.
Alcohol is not the worst of vices to be adopting to be honest. Almost everyone drinks alcohol at some point in their lives and it only really becomes a problem if you become addicted to it, which I am sure you are perfectly sensible enough not to do.
However, drinking alcohol a fair bit at the age of 14 is not the best of ideas as young bodies do not cope with it as well as older ones. Also, getting drunk can lead to all sorts of problems if you are at the point where you don't know what you are doing. You can do all sorts of things that you would never do whilst sober and that you will regret when you wake up in the morning.
In conclusion, I would make sure it is something you do very, very rarely, but there is no need to give it up entirely.

Precisely the thought processes I was going through. Addiction is a term that is easy to define, but all the more difficult to diagnose however.
Alcohol is to me my only vice, it's the one thing that I let myself down on.
Then why do you continue to drink it? I have lost mates from drinking -dead- so don't sit there and say that alcohol is the only thing you let yourself down on, because maybe thats why your failing at it. Try waking up one morning, go for a shower then take a good look in the mirror and decide what truely you are failing at, and then life will become a whole lot easier.
it's a case of one drink gets me going and then it ends up in a craving
Surely, knowing that if you have one drink your going to get a craving to want to drink more which is going to end up in misfortunes. If you know the consequences, why continue? it's simple. If you don't like the consequences then don't drink. Repeating the same mistake doesn't make you learn, it makes you an idiot. Making a mistake and then not making it again makes you learn.
I don't know, I would invite you to try and persuade me.
it's silly how you can sit there and ask us to persuade you to stop drinking, when you have said that you know the consequences of you drinking. So this isn't for us to say to you anything at all because you obviously know what it does to you yet you still continue. So to sit there and ask us to persuade you to stop drinking is not only pathetic, but insulting.
partly a positive thing for me
then the answer its simple isnt it? Just drink on special occasions; birthdays and christmas. That way you can keep your "vice" without the "vice" itself, understand?

Wow Mike, I don't know you well, but I never thought of you as a drinker. That's definitely put a ned stereotype drink Bukky out of my head.
I've tried drink myself, but found that it left a bitter taste in my mouth (no pun intended). You're fourteen, your body can't handle drink as well as an adult could, and you should take alcohol seriously. A drink at a celebration or party is alright in moderation, but as soon as alcohol becomes a common occurrence then you need to get out. It may make you feel better now, but in the big picture it can only harm you. Mike, I've never felt that way about drink myself, so I can't see your perspective, but from what I gather, it needs to stop.

Whiteshadow, though I admit that it's a vice of mine, it's never been a vice that has damaged me, when I drink my stories come together more, I can write more fluently and I'm more confident. I know the dangers, but it's not enough for me to stop myself. I don't go out and get pissed, I don't go out and try to get drunk, I stop myself all the time. It's difficult, but I do. It carries on in regulation, but not entirely.

You stop yourself all the time.
So if you stop yourself, what are you trying to say here?

If you get addicted it's hard to stop. Then you end up becoming an alcoholic and you can die of liver failure. It's fine if you know when to stop, it's just sometimes you don't cuz you're drunk...

When the time passes this becomes a habit. So it is better to stop having alcohol. I would say prevention is better than cure.

Hey Mike, taking alcohol is increasing problems a lot and don’t give us any good solution. So think about it and if you are suffering from problems just talk with your best friend and find a solution. Your friends will help you.
