Am I the only one who finds the "gaydar" products inappropriate? At the moment, I consider myself Bisexual (being 13 I don't have a clue really) and I keep seeing silly keychains that beep when you press a button, aptly called Gaydars because they can "hunt down the gay people out there" for you. Notice on the picture they say it's to find out if you are gay to cover themselves. Like anyone's gonna do that. I dunno, but I think that's wrong. If I was completely gay, I wouldn't want to see a product that clearly is homophobic/discriminating against me. Thoughts?

I'm not sure. These things are novelty products, so it is clear that a large percentage of people will take them with a pinch of salt and see them as the jokey bit of fun that they are.
However, I can see how some people could find them offensive.

Nah, I'm not saying I totally hate them. The websites are okay, but I think that actually making a product is pushing it.

I don't know if I can really judge this because as far as I know I'm straight. But it doesn't really seem all that homophobic to me; it seems like a slightly childish joke.
They probably made the product because the websites were popular and they saw it as a money making oppurtunity.

Hmm, true. Reason I decided to grumble is because a group of idiots at our school have them, and are now declaring the world "gay". They've also been making fun of somebody who is gay, and I can tell you he isn't happy at all.

Well that's just kids being eejits; I'm sure if they had a 'terrorist detector' they would declare everyone terrorists and likewise. Just because there are probably more straight people than gay and bi (so straight is the 'norm') people seem to find being gay hilarious.

I've spent a fair few years wandering between bi and gay, and I actually find the thought of that rather amusing. Though as Tom said, I can understand where people could easily find offence. And where it could cause problems. I'm not out to many people IRL. Three, at the last count, I think. And a couple of months ago if someone had come up to me with one of those and declared me gay infront of people I would have found it quite difficult to deal with. Nowadays though, I'd have no problem brushing it aside. I suppose I'm more confident in my own sexuality, and even though effectively no-one knows, I'm comfortable with being addressed as it.
That probably makes no sense. Extreme tiredness + far too much sugar does not make for coherent posts I'm afraid.
